Obviously not all online businesses and retailers
are bad. Online shopping has helped save many people loads of
time, money and fuel in providing delivery of goods right to your post
office or door step.
One must take care however when sharing what could
be compromising information.
We suggest that you never share your birth date,
your mother's maiden name, or your social security number with retailer
and anyone else for that matter. Some businesses, service
providers and medical offices still may list a space on their forms for
your social security number, but they oftentimes do not require this
information to serve you. Always check with them first if they
actually need this data before providing. The last four digits may
suffice - but more often than not, your social security number will not
be used as a personal identifier and should be kept private.
Guard Your Identity!!!
Locate your personal identification on search
engines such as Google maps and other online phonebooks and ask them to
remove your information. This will require some doing, but you
will be safer for the time spent. As much as possible control what info
is out there on you.
