Favorite Wines & Varietals

Cinnabar Wines
Cabernet Scores 90pts!  "A beautiful Cab showcasing flamboyant cassis, cocoa and smoky oak flavors, enhanced by firm, sweetly ripe tannins and a touch of oak. It’s delicious, but has enough firmness and complexity to make it noteworthy." Cinnabar 2003 Mercury Rising (a Bordeaux-style red blend) is just delightful as well

Leasingham Shiraz "Bin 61" South Australia 2002
One of our favorite $20-26 reds out there.  No headaches, smooth, not acidic.  Just overall delightful to drink.  Great Value.

Hess Chardonnay
This is one drinkable Chardonnay and for under $10 it's hard to beat.  Costco sells the Hess Chardonnay for $7, but most other stores we've found it to be closer to $10.

Château Musar
This extraordinary wine from Lebanon was originally created by Gaston Hochar in the cellars of the old 'Mzar' castle in Ghazir, overlooking the Mediterranean sea.  In 1984, the respected wine magazine Decanter named Serge Hochar the first ever "Wine Man of the Year" for his extraordinary achievements, determination and dedication to producing wines during the difficult years of the Lebanese Civil War.  The 1995 red is one of my personal favorites. Not many cases were made and the quality of the wine is just excellent. It seems chocolatey to the palate.  A big wine. And the Château Musar White I found to be terribly interesting and unique - though reviews at InfoMiss are mixed on the White. http://www.chateaumusar.com.lb/english/home.aspx

Get A Wine Broker!
Wine brokers can suggest to you the perfect wine every time.  No more buying horrible wines that cost you a lot of money to see if you like it.  A good wine broker will get wines from select wineries - perhaps wineries that others do not have access to commercially.

In the under $20 range we love:

Reds:
Cinnabar Mercury Rising ($18)
Leasingham Cabernet Bin 56  ($18)
Leasingham Shiraz ($24)

Whites:
A nice bottle of Prosecco would be a fun holiday gift.  Prosecco is a sparkling wine from Venice Italy. Very refreshing and not the headaches that champagne can induce.  Barone Ciani Bassetti Prosecco V.S.A.Q. if you can find it.  ($25) Andrew Adam Vineyards 2003 Pinot Gris ($25)
