We have tried to note items that brought mom's
and dad's great satisfaction along with listing products that have a
minimalist approach. We love products that incorporate
multi-use functionality into design. We are not paid by anyone
to publish their products. Only tested, tried and LOVED
products by us are listed.
Buying your own Babies Clothes
Parents, have a discussion about clothing. One father told us
that he wished there were standardized clothing. He felt
frustrated that from outfit to outfit, there was no consistency to
how the outfit would go on. With every outfit it was a new way
to tie, snap, or button, not to mention which way is front and back.
Which way is front on this top and which is back? Perhaps you'd say
that the side with the embellishments is front. Okay, but this can
still be confusing to a fellow whose Oxford's button on front so
therefore would consider buttons to be embellishments, when they are
actually to be in the back closures. He is processing all of
this while baby is screaming mind you. If need be create a
daddy shelf and a mommy shelf of clothing - fail proof clothing
that's easy-on for the parent whose costume challenged.
Buying / Giving your Friends Baby Clothes
Our suggestion is to buy very few 3 month old baby clothes (8
pounds). Number one, it really sucks to change babies that are that
young. They fuss, they hate it - it's just bad news.
Besides, they don't spit up too much then and don't get dirty. Win
your friends affection by getting them either 6 month, 9 month or 12
month clothing. Babies seem to be larger these days, so we'd suggest
even very few 6 month clothing purchases.
A
couple of Baby outfits that we could live without
♥ Onesie's for infants and beyond.
Too many entry points and closures for a crying infant and a squirmy child.
Exception: Not bad for boys who's poop can and will explode up and out of the
back of the diaper.
♥ Outfits that snap or Button in the back for an infant (or even a
child that can not stand on their own. It's ridiculous to put
the baby on it's stomach that can't hold it's own head up, to snap
or close buttons.
♥ Outfits with too many entry points and different styled
closures. Buttons are the worst for the smaller infants.
♥ Infant bibs. Some babies start teething and therefore
drooling as early as one month old, but these little bibs are
silly - and the ones that tie are scary. Better to get the
larger, Velcro bibs as even if a baby starts teething as early as 1 month,
the larger size means more slime catching opportunities.
As for spitting up - maybe 2 out of 10 times the baby will actually
hit the bib with the projectile stuff, but he will more likely get
your shirt. Besides bibs will prevent you from the many
costume changes you'll want to give your baby early on so that you can enjoy
and use all of the clothes you received at your shower.
♥ Shoes for infants. Cute, but hardly necessary
unless you're in a cold climate and just need the extra layer. Best to
save the soled shoes until they
start trying to walk. Socks and bare feet
are perfect if the area is safe, for example be careful with bare feet
on hot cement. If you do
buy shoes, make sure they are flexible like the Robeks brand of
shoes. Better for foot development and allows the baby to get a feel
for what walking is all about.
Baby outfits that we like
♥ Simple long-sleeved T-shirts in soft cotton - keeps arms warm
while sleeping. Make sure that their is no wrist cuff or tight
elastic or you can cut the wrist cuff off of the tee-shirt to get it on babies
arms
easier. Babies with chunky wrists (most of them) will enjoy
not having tight wrist elastic to bother them.
♥ Little cotton pants or shorts.
We like the ones with elastic waistband (not too tight). We
also don't care for the snaps that go up the leg for diaper changes.
It takes more time to snap those up on a squirmy baby than it ever
does to just take off and put back on the pants in the first place.
♥
Socks with skid pads on the bottom. Socks will protect their feet
on rough or hot ground like concrete. Many podiatrists
recommend not introducing shoes until you have to and when you do to
purchase super flexible shoes for baby.
♥ Simple short-sleeved T-shirts in soft cotton Check out:

♥ Soft Sleepers with footies for
colder climates or for newborns whose temps are still erratic.
Get the kind that snap or zip up the front. Lay
sleeper down, baby on top of that, snap and your finished.
Very little fuss.
♥ The sleep sacs for infants with long sleeves. Babies
hands will never stay under a sheet so it's good to get long sleeves
for sleep wear.
♥ Tank tops
♥ Baby hats work best when they have the Velcro chin strap.
Otherwise you can forget your baby wearing a hat when they learn to
take it off.
